We returned from Shavehead Lake on Friday night after a week of relaxation and family time. Overall, it was a fantastic week for the family and I to be together. We swam and fished and ran around. The kids did a good job adjusting to the heat at the cottage (No AC) and I had fun cooking most of the meals. Give a guy a grill and he goes nuts!
So, we are back and I’m sure later in the week I’ll share some of my profound thoughts that came to me while staring endlessly at the ripples of water last week. But here are some of the many things that we’ve stepped into coming off of vacation.
15 days
In about 2 weeks I’ll be embarking with 7 other people to Northern Ireland for our 3 week mission trip. The assignments have just come in and everyone in the group is realizing that we really will be apart most of the trip. Though I haven’t gotten my list yet, I’ve been told that I’m assigned to the Five Mile Methodist Church. I’m still waiting to learn more about this church and my work there.
Stapleton’s here
We’ve been hosting some old Moody chums and Wycliffe Bible Translators Erik and Michelle Stapleton. They live in the island nation of Vanuatu and are home visiting and resting to go back next spring. Since they haven’t been to the States since 2000, they were a little surprised when Survivor was in their area. They had never heard of a reality show… At any rate, it’s a lot of fun to catch up with them and hear about what God is doing on the island they live on.
House hunting
The search hits high gear this Wednesday as we will see 5 houses in the area. We have a stupid goal of buying a house before I leave for NI on July 18th.
Fireworks
The whole family and the Stapleton’s will be going to Stony Creek Metropark tonight to enjoy the fireworks and some good old fashioned 4th of July fun.
PA in a controversy
When I came back there was a very formal letter from a family in the church who is concerned that PA and PB are teaching spiritual disciplines. Their charge is pretty interesting and I fear it may be the tip of the iceberg. The flipside of it is, our primary avenue for teaching these has been going great. There were about 50 people at our last Bonfire. Absolutely incredible!
