I had a home birth with a midwife and it was the best choice I ever made. There is nothing "scary" about childbirth, it is a natural act and when you trust in Jesus it is even a sacred act which gets ruined when you are tied to machines and doctors telling you how it should be done. Mary had already probably witnessed many births in her family because back then they didn't hide it from young girls- it was a part of life. It is amazing what women can do when they pass on knowledge. I am certain that it was painful, but the body is amazing and pumps out it's own drugs.
