He would rather go without something than to ask for it. It's always frustrated me, because while I do understand the difficulty of asking a stranger or someone you don't know very well for help, I have a hard time understanding why it is so difficult for him to ask a parent for something. And I also feel that it's important to allow him to struggle with the choice of asking or not asking--If you'll ask for help, I will help you. How much more does God want us to ask him for things?!
