Notre Dame vs. Michigan

Today is a big game for two coaches going in opposite directions. A win here cements the quick turnaround by Brian Kelly for Notre Dame. (But the loss for Kelly is kind of neutral.) A loss for  Michigan and Rich Rodriguez is firmly on the hot seat and would have to beat Ohio State to keep his job.

For both Notre Dame and Michigan the annual game is clearly one which you circle on the calendar. They each have other rivalry games each year, but this rivalry game is always the early on the calendar and defines the season.

For me, it’s the one week a year where I cheer against Michigan.

The keys to the game seem to be:

  1. Can Notre Dame’s defense contain Denard Robinson? He looked phenomenal against UConn. But there’s definitely a quality difference between Notre Dame’s defense and UConn’s. If they force him to throw, that’ll be key.
  2. Can Notre Dame’s offense take advantage of Michigan’s weak secondary? They’ve had injuries and transfers. And Notre Dame’s Kyle Rudolph and Michael Floyd are legitimately top quality receivers in college football.

My prediction: Notre Dame 41 Michigan 33

    34 – 24 – Notre Dame

Our defense is better than people think. “Denard, meet Mr. Teo”.

Our offense isn’t quite mature enough to hang 41. I would be happy if they did.

Don’t forget this game always includes one team getting a special teams TD. And I’m thinking Mr. Walls might have a TD in him. He’s been talking paybacks from getting burned by Forcier last year.

I actually wouldn’t be surprised to see Forcier make an appearance this week. The two of them offer quite a 1-2 punch. Wildcat?

True. I wouldn’t be shocked to see a defensive touch down or special team touch down. To be honest I’m not feeling very good about it.

I think Crist will throw a pick. If he does we can’t lose a fumble.

Hail to the Victors!! Can’t wait for your 2011 MICHIGAN v. nd prediction when the refs aren’t irish and you have to come to the new and improved BIG HOUSE!

Denard is special… but this game in all honesty could have went either way!

Well, for the record they were Big Ten officials. I didn’t really see any horrible
calls. I do remember them taking 2 TDs from ND on the first drive. But beyond that it seemed like ND left Robinson on the field too much.

More than 1k yards of total offense in the game… It certainly was fun to watch.
