Talking to Parents about Principles of Social Media

Last week, I had the opportunity to spend some time chatting to Paul Turner, a longtime friend in youth ministry from the great state of Alabama, about some of the principles we teach in A Parent’s Guide to Social Media.

A Principled Approach

You hear it in the interview at several points. I’m really into teaching transferable principles. When Marko and I started working on the book, that was one of the things we agreed on at the very beginning. If you want to write about social media in a way that won’t feel dated by the time the book comes out, you’ve got to talk about social media in a principled kind of way.

But as we dug into that more and more for the book I became more and more convinced that this isn’t just a good idea for social media, it’s a great way to talk about parenting in general.

Bring Me to Your Church

I’d love to do the full presentation at your church and make you look like a rock star! I do a one hour version based on the principles taught in the book. (It’s obviously customizable to your specific needs, too.)

I’m down to go anywhere to teach this stuff.

But there are three specific dates that I’m looking for an opportunity to present at a church or school. I’ll already be in the area so you’d only need to pay my speaking fee and not for any travel: (Who doesn’t like a good deal?)

  • Las Vegas area – March 17th
  • New York City area – April 5th
  • Seattle area – April 18th or April 21st

Have you used the book in your ministry? Marko and I would love to hear about it.
