ouch! clerical error may cost me

Yesterday I made a transfer of funds over to cover some incoming debits on the McLane Family checking account. Well, I was horrified this morning when my card was rejected at our morning bible study. What went wrong? Had Kristen spent a lot of money and not told me?

It seems that the transfer I made yesterday took money out of checking instead of savings. So while I thought I had made things better I had made them worse! Terribly worse.

There seems to be a habit with vendors that they hold submitting payments on debits cards for up to a week. This normally doesn’t matter, but in this case it hit us for a total of 6 overdraft fees. Being that National City boosted their overdraft fees to $30 each, this hits us with a charge of $180! I simply have no way to absorb that during the holidays.

I already contacted the bank to see what they can do. If they won’t do anything, I’ll probably leave the bank over it. It’s one thing to charge me a small fee for making a mistake. But $180! No way. If they can’t get it down to nothing or maybe one fee we are leaving there.

The big thing is that I am certain I didn’t do it wrong. I’ve transferred funds dozens of times without making that mistake. Anything is possible, but I am about 85% certain I didn’t mess up.
