Feedback needed!

IPromo_commercial‘ve been working on a promotional video for our church for quite a while now. Being that I am not a video person by trade this has been something I’ve been really, really lost on.

That said, here is a pre-release version of it. In Hollywood I think they call it a "rough cut." If you have a spare 5 minutes, would you mind looking at it and posting a comment with feedback. If you are a dial-up user, be aware that this is a large file!

5 minutes!?! HA! For those of us who have dial-up, it takes at least 1 1/2 hours to load….but oh well…it was worth it. It looks really good.

I should clarify… 5 minutes to watch. Downloading may take a lot longer.

Good video overall. A few minor tweaks, though –
    1. a bit shorter
    2. lose the interviews where the camera unsteadiness was the worst, or else use Studio or some other tool to smooth out that shakiness by removing some frames and tweening it.
    3. lose the interviews where the sound quality – feedback – was the worst.
    4. at the very end, either conclude the music or fade it out, don’t let it end so abruptly.

Kind of reminded me of my church – you are really blessed to have a church home like that. ๐Ÿ™‚

I thought that for an amateur, you did a really great job of it.

The suggestions I have are to lose the first two questions and answers and start with the third interview Q&A because otherwise it gets boring, you feel that you’ve seen all this before and stop listening.

The content itself was very flattering to the church, but I think that something in-between people (like another heading) might have made it more interesting.

And the music wasn’t uplifting, and was subtle enough that I didn’t even hear it at first, but I’d choose something different and edit it so it fades out.

Overall, though, I thought you did a good job.

Good video but too long. ๐Ÿ™‚ Shorten it down by getting rid of the shakiest interviews. Perhaps show some things going on in the church (services, fun and games, service projects or whatever you do) i know, i know, i said shorten and then add some other stuff….hard to balance it all. I know, my hubbie has the same struggle when he edits video too. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you to all who have given me feedback.

    A couple of notes.
    – The film footage I was given to start with was pretty rough. Very bumpy and the sound quality was poor. Amatuer results from amatuers. ๐Ÿ™‚
    – It is a bit long, I’ll be trimming some of the interviews.
    – I never knew the music not fading would be such an issue… I’ll clear that up.
    – It may help to know the context of what this will be used for. This will be a part of a larger DVD that will be sent to visitors. The other primary segment will be a sample service. The presumption is that a visitor has seen us in person and we’re just trying to connect them to the heart of who the church is.

Again, thank you for your feedback so far. When it is 100% finished I will post another link.

For inspiration, if you can stand the download time for this video (88mb), even with a cable modem it took me about 3 minutes, check out the video at the top of the list. My church made it not long after hurricane Katrina to update the members and show some of the damage to the church.

The guys who made the video have been doing it for quite a while, but even so it’s not perfect. There’s a little shakiness, and a really annoying spot on the camera lens. And blank space at the end, I don’t know what that was about… I think as a newbie yours stands up very favorably. I’m looking forward to seeing your finished product!
