Week 17 Results
You can see my Top 25 tracking spreadsheet here.
- Florida – Two simple wins this week. They are looking big, healtthy, and hot at the right time.
- Wichita State – It’s noteworthy that they are now 31-0. But equally noteworthy that their toughest game was against Saint Louis.
- Arizona – Beat Stanford today and I think they jump Wichita State. Can they win it all without Brandon Ashley?
- Syracuse – A split week. But don’t forget that this team has lost 3 out of 4. It’s not pretty.
- Kansas – If I were Bill Self I’d be worried about March Madness. They can win at home but struggle on the road. if the NCAA tourney was at home they’d win it all. But it’s not…
- Duke – They finally won the big game. Long time coming, but Coach K has his team peaking at the right moment.
- Louisville – With only 1 win against a ranked opponent, this team is completely overrated and riding off the NCAA championship from a year ago.
- Nova – As long as they aren’t playing Creighton, Nova is a top 5 team. Good wins this week.
- Creighton – I think this team is overrated. Doug McDermmot is just Jimmer 2.0. Make him run, guard him on screens, they have nobody at #2 – #5 on their roster and zero bench.
- Saint Louis – Can we stop talking about Saint Louis now? They haven’t beaten a ranked opponent and they got beat at home against a 12-15 team in conference play. Enjoy that 12 seed.
- Cincy – Lost two this week. I like this scrappy team, but they have gotten figured out in conference play and need to get it back in the lab for the conference tourney.
- Virginia – This team is white hot. Syracuse was never seriously in that game. My only fear for UVa is peaking too soon. You almost hope they get a loss between now and March Madness to keep things focused.
- San Diego State – Two good wins this week. 15 players on the court against SJSU. And the completely dominated a white hot Fresno State on senior night.
- Wisconsin – It appears Wisconsin is back on track after a forgetable start to conference play. This is the Big Ten’s most consistent team.
- Iowa State – Kansas State has a unique ability to do that to teams. Good win against WVU earlier in the week though.
- Michigan – Props to the Wolverines. They won the Big 10 title this week! If they stay healthy they should have shot at the Big 10 tourney and a high seed. But overall the Big 10 has been weak down the stretch.
- Kentucky – This Kentucky team just isn’t very good. Losses this week against Arkansas and a truly bad South Carolina teams… if they were in any other league they’d be NIT bound. The SEC is just bad this year.
- Michigan State – What is going on in East Lansing? Losing in Ann Arbor wasn’t that surprising. But losing at home to Illinois. I think this is the conferences most talented team, but they need smelling salt or they will find themselves in a play-in game come March Madness.
- North Carolina – 11 in a row for the Tarheels. This team is athletic and coming together at the right time. They might not get a top 4 seed, but look for them in the regional final.
- Iowa – They unnecessarily struggled with a pretty bad Purdue team. Iowa just isn’t great. They are middle of the pack in an overrated Big 10 this year. 3 losses in a row, bye bye top 25.
- Memphis – The loss this week at Houston hurts. I really like watching this team play, they are fun and athletic. They need to reattach the chip to their shoulder and finally beat UConn in the tourney.
- Ohio State – Ohio State is very talented. But I think coaching must be the problem. How else do you explain to losing to Penn State twice in a season?
- SMU – What’s not to love about SMU? This is a team poised to make a run in the tourney. Unfortunately, they are closing out conference play against two ranked teams. If they can split them, look out.
- Texas – This is a good team and I wouldn’t want them in March Madness. They have had a tough stretch but look for them to go on a little run here.
- New Mexico – They are surging. I expect them to steam roll Nevada today. And we’re all looking for a little revenge this Saturday when they come into Viejas.
