The beta test year for OpenYM is now about 3/5th complete, with Boston this weekend and Grand Rapids at the end of the month.
Three years ago Open started as a whitepaper. Something I was tentatively calling “YouthMin Camp.” It was forking the very best of WordCamp & some of the flavor of BarCamp, and adding in a few elements to make it work within the youth ministry world.
Building off of the success of Blogging 101, I’ve scheduled the next logical step… Blogging 201!
Blogging 101 was all about getting started, having an initial plan to make blogging a habit, getting your blog set-up, and stuff like that.
Blogging 201 is about writing, editing, and publishing the content that’ll actually go on your blog. (aka The hard part.)
Here’s my look at the week that was in college basketball… and a wild last couple of days it has been.
The next few months will find me in a bunch of places, I’d love to meet-up if it works. Here’s where I’ll be and how we can connect.
California is desperate for rain. The past several days in San Diego have been overcast, we even got a couple sprinkles. But we are long overdue for serious rainfall. And if we don’t get the rain we need in the next 6-10 weeks it’ll have a dramatic impact on life here in California. But also around the country and the cost of things manufactured and grown here will go up.
From a Pew Internet focus group:
Friending teachers and preachers
Female (age 14): “I think I wouldn’t [become Facebook friends with my teachers]. Just because I’m such a different person online. I’m more free. And obviously, I care about certain things, but I’m going to post what I want. I wouldn’t necessarily post anything bad that I wouldn’t want them to see, but it would just be different. And I feel like in the classroom, I’m more professional [at] school. I’m not going to scream across the room oh my God, I want to dance! Or stuff like that. So I feel if they saw my Facebook they would think differently of me. And that would probably be kind of uncomfortable. So I probably would not be friends with them.”
So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.— Genesis 1:27
If we are image bearers of God. We are made of glass, fragile in comparison to the One we reflect.
No offense to Branson, Missouri. But it’s not Las Vegas.
Branson has shows. It has nightlife. It has hotels. It has entertainment. It’s promoted as a fun place to go because it is a fun place to go.
But it isn’t Vegas. Vegas has better nightlife. Better hotels. Better entertainment. Vegas is promoted the way it is because there’s only one Las Vegas.
