We need a heat wave!
This weekend is Romeo’s annual community Easter Egg hunt. (see video of last years event) This is put on by Romeo Parks & Rec department and has become a favorite of my kids. They only thing that they like doing as much is the first high school football game when they have a big party with face painting, inflatables, and games.
Going into this year the staff at church was looking for an event like that to either put on ourselves or somehow compliment to make better. So I contacted the community center to see if we could help. (Why reinvent the wheel?) To my delight they said yes.
On Saturday morning we are doing a couple of simple things to make the event just a tad more fun. We’re providing live music (Jimmy’s band) and a warming station with coffee/hot chocolate/apple cider. This is part of our new “God of this City” emphasis.
The problem: Let’s state the obvious. It is still winter in Romeo. My backyard currently has 6 inches of snow. We need a few days of 40-50 degree weather to have a shot at the field being clear of snow. More importantly, if it is 15 degrees I think that will dramatically lessen the attendance at this event. And we’re looking to warm up and meet as many parents as possible!
The solution: Right now we’re just watching the weather and hoping it all comes true! We have 3 days forecasted to be in the 40s and Saturday is currently forecasted to be about 35.
Wanna come? It’s at Barnabo Field at 1:00 PM.

God of This City
Here’s the video I sent out with our weekly email update. Seriously, if you aren’t a part of a local church and you are looking to connect somewhere… this Sunday is a great place to jump on board.

The Heart of Worship
On Sunday I mentioned that I got chills during our rehearsal as Jimmy began practicing with a new vocalist. I thought I’d back that up with this clip from our worship service. This new person is going to add so much to what we’re doing! I’m totally excited… here’s a sample of why.

Videos, blue keys, and more…
My basement is a fan of Blue Man Group right now. Hanging from the rafters are tons of chunks of metal with a fresh coat of blue enamel on them… drip drying.I spent about half of my week making a video for Sunday’s service.
We called in some favors this week to get some “wow” stuff.
Jimmy has learned a brand new song just for this service. It’s amazing.
Bob is completely jazzed about his message.
Why all the fuss? This week’s service will be unmissable. Seriously, I know they are calling for ice and rain tonight… but you need to know this service will be worth ice skating, snowshoeing, or whatever it takes to get there.
I’ve been at Romeo almost 5 years. And I’ve gotten fired up about some Sunday’s. This one ranks right up there. The word all week we’ve used is “Killer.” I think this service will be killer.
If you’ve never joined us at Romeo: This is going to be the perfect jumping in point. If you come Sunday, you’ll leave knowing exactly who we are, what we’re all about, and why we do what we do.

From the MainStreet vault
Some of these clips are for MainStreet tomorrow while others are for “web only.” But over all I thought this was some funny stuff.

Elf HQ
Jimmy and I are off to shoot 2 more elf videos for services this weekend. If we have time there will even be some bonus commercials available online only. The whole point of these is two fold…
- Enjoy them! Seeing church staff dressed like elves should be fun.
- Share them! The reason we’re doing all of this is to promote our service on December 23rd. So if you want to see more stuff like this, take action and get people to that service. We’re looking to pack the church out.

The Elves Are Coming
Apparently the people of Romeo have never seen grown men dressed like elves before. Until today. As Jimmy and I were stopping to take pictures and waving in their cars and generally enjoying the sight.I have to say Jimmy looked pretty good as an elf. Let’s just say I have a lot of junk in the trunk so my tights were a little tight. I’m sure we were a sight to behold.
I’m going to hold the videos until Sunday morning. So if you want to see them, check out our debut. (There are scheduled to be two “commercials” during the service with elves.)

Welcome Jimmy and Ashley
For the last few weeks I’ve had a hard time biting my tongue as I couldn’t wait for Jimmy and Ashley to get started at Romeo. Well, today was the day.
There are a lot of things I like about Jimmy and Ashley. It goes without saying that Jimmy is a very talented worship leader. I look forward to working with him in all of our worship environments.
But I have to be honest. I am excited about Jimmy and Ashley for more reasons than just musical talent. They are simply high quality people. They have an amazing story and I don’t think it will be long for them to start sharing it. They have a heart for this community and felt drawn to help our team reach Romeo. And of course, they have a beautiful growing baby.
So, lots to be excited about today as we add to the Romeo family.
