Adam McLane's current Top 25 Rankings & Top 10 Best Teams Right Now

College Basketball Rankings – Week 13

Here’s my look at the week that was. Technically, the week that is… not expecting any of the current top 25 to lose the Sunday match-ups.

Week 12 Results

  1. Zona – Rolling with 2 solid wins against lesser opponents. Let’s face it, the Pac-12 is a lacking opponent. An all-star Pac-12 team couldn’t beat the Cats right now. They might beat the Sac Kings in a scrimmage..
  2. Syracuse – Handled business, 2 conference wins.
  3. Michigan State – Split ’em this week. The loss to Michigan at home hurts.
  4. Villanova – They got slapped by Creighton at home, ouch.
  5. Wichita State – Two wins against lesser opponents.
  6. Florida – Two wins against lesser opponents, they are playing well. Not flashy but dangerous.
  7. San Diego State – Two ugly wins, really. Both on the road. The one at Utah State was a lot tougher than East Coast voters will give them credit for. USU is a great venue for college ball.
  8. Kansas – Won two, 6 in a row in the Big 12, arguably the toughest conference this year.
  9. Wisconsin – Split this week and finally ended their skid before it was too late.
  10. Iowa – Split week, lost to Michigan… but so is everyone right now.
  11. OK State – One good win, they are rolling again.
  12. Louisville – They played well in their only game this week, things are coming together at the right time.
  13. Umass – We learned they aren’t as good as we thought with that loss to the Spiders. (Who I think are a tournament quality team.)
  14. Kentucky – Two wins against weaker opponents, but this team is starting to gel. Look out for the Wildcats.
  15. Cincy – A pair of wins against lesser opponents, moving on up.
  16. Iowa State – Good home win against Kansas State puts them back on track.
  17. Ohio State – Splitting games this week, the wheels are coming off. I expect them to improve though.
  18. Duke – Two wins reminds everyone that Coach K is still Coach K. Look for them to make a little run here.
  19. St. Louis – Have you seen them play? They are fun to watch, two wins this week have them on the rise.
  20. Pitt – Two wins this week. I like what I see out of this blue collar team in a blue collar town.
  21. Michigan – What needs to be said? 3 wins in a row against the Top 10 including a UFC quality TKO against Sparty on national TV. Bust out the pollsters pogo stick. But don’t get cocky Wolverine fans, this is a tough conference.
  22. K-State – This team heads back to the barn after two losses to figure out what’s wrong. They can’t seem to get over the hump.
  23. Memphis – Physical play lead to two wins this week.
  24. Baylor – Ouch. The Baptists from Waco are going to hope for a Lazarus moment down the stretch. They got roughed up good against Texas, it wasn’t pretty. Maybe they need to go back to normal uniforms?
  25. Oklahoma – This is a team on the rise in the Big 12 with two quality wins in conference play.

FYI, Iowa beat Minnesota (94-73) and lost to Michigan (75-67).

Oops. Fixed that. Had it reversed in my head. Watched first half of the Minn/Iowa game. Really like the development of MN basketball. Seems like they are finally back on the right track.

I think Virginia is close to breaking into the top 25. Maybe even this week.

I think UVa is a week away… they are really lacking a notable win. They’ve got wins in their conference but not against the top 3 schools.

That loss to UW Green Bay is memorable in voters eyes. (And the beat down by a pretty mediocre Vols team is tough to forget!) Beat depleted Notre Dame on ESPN and then earn that spot at Pitt next Sunday and they should be in for sure. Maybe even jump right up to like 22-23?

But I think they are probably 27-28 this week. I think Ohio State is #26… maybe even 25. I think they are a lock for the tourney at this point, barring a collapse. Definitely on the rise from the couple times I’ve seen them as of late. (Why am I watching more basketball than Dicky V???)

Yeah in typical UVA fashion they lost some early ones they shouldn’t of lost. They have been playing some good ball since ACC play. Hopefully they can finish strong.

They should steam roll ND mid-week. That contest against Pitt will be a test… “Are we a tourney team or a NIT team?” The ACC isn’t as stacked as normal so I only see them getting 4-5 teams in. (Big 10 & Big 12 mike each have 5-6!)
