Week 15 Results

  1. Syracuse (3) 25-0 – Truly survived this week. They are two clutch shots away from being 23-2 instead of 25-0. How long can the luck last?
  2. Arizona (2) 23-2 – Dropped a rivalry game against a tenacious ASU. This should hurt them a little in the polls, but is it a symbol of what’s to come without Ashley?
  3. Florida (4) 23-2 – Passed the test this week going on the road to Tennessee and Kentucky to win relatively easily.
  4. Wichita State (7) 27-0 – No one in this conference can stop them. But the question remains: Are they 2014’s Gonzaga? Pretender or contender?
  5. SDSU (20) 22-2 – Tough loss on the road for the Aztecs; solid bounce back win against an Air Force team desperate for a showcase win. They should be back on a roll now.
  6. Nova (5) 22-3 – They have it all figured out except Doug McDermitt. If they see him in the conference tourney, look out!
  7. Kansas (1) 19-6 – The losses are piling up for the #1 RPI team in the country. Losing to a not-so-great KSU should hurt them in the polls more than it will.
  8. Duke (9) 20-5 – I was surprised to see the Dukies struggle with Maryland at home, needing a possession arrow mistake to avoid an even closer finish.
  9. Michigan State (18) 21-5 – Wow, Sparty is great when healthy and completely beatable unhealthy. The real story, to me, is how good Nebraska is getting.
  10. Cincinnati (14) 23-3 – They beat Houston to get back on track, I was impressed with that game.
  11. Iowa State (10) 19-5 – Split week. They got ran out of the gym in West Virginia but bounced back against a not-so-great TTU. We’ll know more when they play Texas.
  12. Saint Louis (11) 22-3 – The good times just keep rolling. No one really knows if this team is any good though, I’ve watched them play… it’s like an AAU team against a mediocre high school team though, in that league. I think a lack of experience against top competition keeps them soft.
  13. Louisville (36) 21-4 – This team is dangerous. No Bad loses and throttling lesser teams.
  14. Kentucky (13) 19-6 – They got measured against Florida at home. Yup, not elite. Pretty good but a first weekend team in March.
  15. Michigan (16) 18-7 – They’ve lost 3 of 5 now. They seem to be better on the road than at home, still dangerous in March… just getting their teeth kicked in in conference play.
  16. Iowa (24) 18-6 – They basically had the week off. And with a trip to Bloomington, they get another bye. This is a Big Ten team on the rise.
  17. Virginia (17) 21-5 – White hot. Pay attention, they have 3 easy games ahead. Playing like a top 10 team right now with only a home match-up with Syracuse in their way.
  18. Creighton (8) 21-4 – The best one-man show in hoops right now. (Sorry LeBron) McDermitt single handedly has given Nova 2 of their 3 losses.
  19. Texas (21) 20-5 – Two really good wins last week. If they say healthy I see them prepped to make a run. We will see if they are a top 10 team this week with trips to Iowa State and Kansas.
  20. Memphis (34) 18-6 – I really like this team, they are fun to watch. But they just aren’t quite good enough to move up the ladder. For them it’s going to be about seeding in the NCAAs.
  21. Wisconsin (6) 21-5 – Looks like the Badgers are back on track. I’ve watched them several times, when they dictate play I’m not sure who can beat them. Really good team.
  22. Ohio State (15) 20-6 – They struggled with a very poor Illinois team at home. That’s what you need to know. Very talented, but something is just wrong in Columbus. They are going to the dance… but expect an early, uncerimonial exit.
  23. SMU (49) 20-6 – Yup, thanks for coming to the Top 25. A program on the rise, just not quite ready for prime time in my opinion.
  24. UConn 25) 20-5 – Their only game of the week was a good win against Memphis, a team who had them circled on the calendar. I think they are on the rise, just not a great team over all though.
  25. Pitt (32) 20-6 – I think Pitt is headed towards the bubble. The pieces are all there at home, but they are shaky on the road.
