So far the conference has been fantastic. I have a long day of meetings, working the booth and digital lounge, and of course making new friends.
I am most excited about my late night thing tonight. I am passionate about people using the internet effectively for their ministry. as I think about it I first diped into internet ministry in 1994. in these years I’ve learned all about adapting to new technologies and I’m happy to help others adapt to some of the advantages of web 2.0.
It’s a busy day, so I’ll cut to the chase. Here are the next 10 tunes crawling through my brain this morning as I prep for day 3 at the conference.
As always, no cheating and ratings included.
Session 1
Andy stanley
Talking about you role with power.
John 13
Trends are moving away from sole sources of power and groups of power towards a distrust of power.
The problem is that as leaders you have power. The question is how do I manage that power.
You have no idea how God wants to use you. Your attitude towards power may be the thing that is holding you back. Make sure in your biases towards power don’t discredit what god wants to do.
Today we are discussing… What happens when god has made you the most powerful person in the room?
What are you going to with this power?
John 13…
How you respond determines who you will be. This helps establish who you are.
-Jesus removed his outer clothing…
-he washed his disciples feet
In peters objection we see that peter realized Jesuss power. Are you kidding me? Thought peter.
Has anyone who follows you been wowed by your humility?
Jesus replied to Peter that his act of humility didn’t lessen his power but gave them the example of what a leader ought to do.
No servant is greater than his messenger.
You will be blessed if you leverage your power for the sake of the other people.
The disciples got this. They got it big time!
When you are the most pwerful person, leverage it to glorify our Master.
When was the last time you or your ministry was criticized for being..
Too humble
Too charitable
Too useful to your community
In the moment when we are told we are powerful… How do we reflect that that we are here to serve our master?
The greatest demonstration of power of this andy can think of comes from george washington.
His reputation was to deflect his power to the principle of servant leadership. King george 3 said that gw walking away from power made him the most powerful leader in the world because he was able and eager to relinquish power.
To exerciE power for your own strength is a sign of weakness and not power.
Mark 10:25.. For even the son of man did not come to be served but to come and serve.
Body surfing and punk rock are abundant. the quote is ministry in moshing… good stuff.
marko, tic, and jeanie did a real nice job. the folks from tics team who design the venue did an awesome job on the design and production. 6 side and back screens help the whole thing. multiple stages rock too. as always… you are not going to find many bigger or better productions than NYWC.
First of all, I feel a lot better this morning than I did yesterday. All the "pre-school nerves" are long gone and we are off to a rip roaring start here at the convention.
Patti and I got the booth set-up and it looks pretty good if you ask me. We were done a little early and had some time so Patti and I spent 30 minutes or so walking around and looking at the other exhibits. You know… spy out the "competition." All in all, we’re on the mickey mouse side compared to the vendors who have the climbing wall and 20 foot display things. We know that and OK with that as this is our first time here and we are a very new company.
About "competition"
One of the YMX core deals is that we don’t want to directly compete with anyone, instead compliment what is already out there and fills the gaps with what isn’t. In other words… our deal is pretty niche based and not out to compete with most of the other vendors here. So we aren’t "pushing product." In fact, we feel like you can’t sell a community. Basically all we can do is tell people who we are.
Friends!
After the booths closed a bunch of folks from YMX stayed out far too late and went to the Hard Rock Cafe. Good times there connecting and hanging out with friends.
Well… we have somehow made it to Tennessee. todd isn’t a very convincing pilot but so far we haven’t died. we are due in atlanta by about 3.
