Saturday TunesI know, I’m a day late. But it felt a little weird to miss this. Yesterday, we had a busy day. I woke up and worked on a friend’s website all morning. Kristen ran some errands. Before we knew it, it was time to go to the beach with our friends from community group. We went up to Torrey Pines, where we met our group along with our refugee family. How is it possible they had never been to the beach before? Not only that… but we were completely amazed at the kids language acquisition. Last Fall they barely spoke any English at all… now the kids feel mostly comfortable with English and mom and dad aren’t too far behind. That’s fun to see.

A lazy evening followed. This was capped off by the delivery of a brand new mattress. Since moving to this house Kristen and I have slept on a double size mattress on the floor. It was fine but excessively ghetto. On Friday, Kristen and I decided to finally solve this aching (literally) problem and headed to a furniture store in Kearney Mesa called “Real Deal.” Just like the reviews of the place promised, this was a great furniture store. Lots of choices and a friendly, no commission staff. Long story short, we got our long-awaited mattress delivered last night. We went from a double mattress on the floor to a massive king sized bed. We both slept like rocks last night. I went to bed about 10 minutes after Kristen last night and she was completely knocked out… that never happens.

Anyway, this morning is quiet. Kristen is off running a 5k and I am home with the kids before church. Here are the next 10 tunes I’m listening too. As always, these are completely random and my ratings are included.

Saturday TunesAh, the weekend. After a fairly stressful start to my week we hit Thursday and coasted. Lots of good stuff happened this week. Lots of stuff accomplished. But it was a front-loaded week and it felt good to have a couple easy days.

Last night I went with Chris, a staffer at Harbor, over to Rock Church for a thing on the economy and social justice. I don’t know that I really learned anything new about what has happened and what is happening with our nations finances, but it was very good to see a church educating its people about what it all means for them and what they can do.

Today is a normal Saturday. Kristen is off to climb Cowles Mountain while I hang with the kids. Later, we’ll take Stoney to the beach. Kristen and Paul already have in a request for Chinese food for lunch… so I guess it’s that and then more fun the rest of the weekend. I’m already looking forward to going to the beach Sunday afternoon.

Here are the next 10 tunes I’m listening to this morning. As usual, these are completely random and my ratings are included.

#1 Say When by The Fray *****

#2 Anyone Else But You by The Moldy Peaches ****

    #3 A King a Kingdom by Derek Webb ****

#4 O Worship The King by Chris Tomlin ***

    #6 Quasimodo by Lifehouse ****

#7 A Kiss to Build a Dream on by Louis Armstrong ****

#9 Stardust by Nat King Cole ****

#10 Nine in the Afternoon by Panic at the Disco ****

Saturday TunesThis morning I’ll be teaching a class at Romeo Bible Institute on the Book of Acts. After that I’m coming home to start working on some template and structure changes at Youth Ministry Exchange. And at some point during the day Patti and her family are arriving from Albany, NY to hang out with us for their Spring Break. They were tired of their Gubanatorial sex scandal in their state so they thought they’d come to the Detroit area… where we know how to mix our mayoral sex scandals with bribery and dead strippers.

As I am finalizing my preparation for classes, my iTunes is rockin’ these next 10 songs. As always these are random, no cheating, ratings included.

    1. Every Breath You Take by The Police ****
    2. How Great Thou Art by Charlie Hall ****
    3. Our Love is Loud by David Crowder Band ****
    4. All I Want is You by Barry Louis Polisar *****
    5. Anyone Else But You by Michael Cera and Ellen Page *****
    6. Daddy by Jewel **** (Alright, that one is embarrassing!)
    7.  Life is Beautiful by Vega4
    8. I Hate Everything (but you) by Derek Webb ****
    9. A Kiss to Build a Dream On by Louis Armstrong *****
    10. One by U2 *****
  • Derek Webb: Is he right about Chrisitan Art?

Check out this video. In it Derek Webb says that the Christian market talks about 2% of life while ignoring the 98% of “stuff” in the real world.

What do you think? Should more Christian art reflect the themes Derek mentions?
