Could it get any more perfect? Coo Coo for Cocoa Puffs.

As Dave mentioned, I’m hooked on the "Will it blend?" commercials. From a marketing perspective think of the brilliance of a simple, good idea. Tom Dickson has become a bit of a cultural icon and at the same time the BlendTec blender name has become synonomous with "industrial quality blenders." When it comes to blenders, Tom Dickson is a pimp. And they’ve garnered all of this free advertising with very low budget, simple videos. Hats off to them! There may not be a better example of the power of viral marketing than "Will it Blend?"
Enough mumbo jumbo, here’s my new favorite for Valentines Day
At least at YMX is does. When we decided that we were going to go to a "monthly theme" format to the new e-zine, we decided right away that some months would be "hot" and some would be "mild." Since March is the first month for the new format we figured, "Why not start off with a bang."
So, next month we’ve got a great amount of articles for youth workers lined up on very sensitive subjects. We’ve got interviews with a guy from xxxchurch.com, spotlighting how they help students deal with porn addictions. Rob Bell on his new book Sex God. Jonathon Herron has a piece called Solo Sex which is self-explanatory I suppose. Plus, reviews of books for talking to students about sex, dealing with sexual issues among staff, a discussion of sex in the Bible, and a lot more.
It should be a month that stirs up a lot of discussion for our little site. When you put those articles with a large amount of music/movie reviews coming up… we’re definitely looking forward to a very strong March.
Tonight is our first MarriedLife at Romeo. ML is a quarterly "living room environment" for married folk at the church. It’s a night to come together and laugh, learn, and enjoy one another’s company. Going into it… my hope is that it’s something that stands out that we do really well. (Like MainStreet)
Que?
Yeah, what does that mean for me? Leading up to this we’ve done some major tech upgrades. I haven’t been involved in a lot of the installation, but I’ll be in charge of using all the new equipment when it’s set up. We’ve added 2 banks of lights. (3 more banks to come as 2007 progresses, infrastructure in place) We’ve added 2 more monitor channels. (Doesn’t matter much for the audience, but to musicians this is huge) And we put in a new projector this week. (Everyone will notice how much brighter that is right away) Looking back, this was way more work than I thought it would be. But the payoff is going to be great. While on a typical Sunday these upgrades won’t be hugely noticeable, events like MarriedLife will really pop.
Our small group had a great ending tonight. At least… it was memorable.
Memorable moment #1 Megan, her friend, and Paul come down from upstairs all dressed up. Paul made his grand entrance dressed like a princess! Complete with jewelry and skirt. It was great! The sad part was that it caught us all off guard and we laughed… causing him to get embarrassed.
Memorable moment #2 All the excitement about Paul got Stoney worked up. He got turned around in his crate and freaked out. The the process of being stuck and freaked out he kind of pee-ed/scented in the dining room. The scent pretty much ended our group!
See, not only do we learn about God in small groups. We get to know one another in our natural environment.
Back on June 2nd, my mom tried desperately to surprise me for my 30th birthday. The truth is, I had sniffed it out that she was coming…
Well last night after Light Force she surprised me for real. She has been stuck at JFK since 5:00 AM Thursday morning due to the snow storm. While she had been having a great time at the Westminster Dog Show, a snow storm was keeping her in New York.
The surprise is that she can’t make it home to Las Vegas any time soon. So they are diverting here here to Detroit until she can get it sorted out. So, in a few hours I have to run to the airport (an hour+) and pick her up for a few days.
We’re actually quite thrilled about this unexpected visitor. It will be fun! I just have to juggle a very hectic schedule. Yikes!
Things over at YMX are getting more and more fun. It’s not even the official launch of the new e-zine until March 1st and we’ve already gotten so much great content that we can’t possible feature it in on the main section of the site properly.
So, we launched all access last night. The idea is that each day we get fresh news from all sorts of musicians, authors, and press people of kinds. We’d like to have a way to get that information out to our users because we think there is an underutilized connection between artists who are producing great content and youth workers who have limited time but still need to know what’s new. So, starting today… when we get all that stuff, we’re going to clean it up and pass it on to our friends!
This video pretty much captures the way my brain has been working/spinning/thinking. I know it’s hard to believe for some people, but the web as people are getting used to using it has drastically changed in the last few months. It’s called Web 2.0. I’ll provide three easy examples of how Web 2.0 is utilized on this blog, then enjoy the video. (Click on the read more button for some discussion questions!)
Web 2.0 is more than just cool widgets . It’s about online collaboration. It’s about "our collective ideas" forming something really cool. It’s more than the information superhighway of the 1990’s. It’s millions of people around the world meeting, working together, networking, connecting, growing, organizing, and changing every second of every day.
Lost? Here’s a video that will make you more lost.
On Saturday night Kristen and I went to Lowes to look at stuff for our kitchen update project. (Actually made a lot of decisions!)
Oddly enough the only thing we bought was a new light for our dining room. It may seem like a silly thing, but we were really embarrassed by the ugliness of that old light. As with most of the other fixtures in the house, it was just all wrong for a house built in 1871 to have the 1980’s "brass and glass" look for the lights when everything else screams arts & crafts. Now we have a nice, simple black metal and white glass fixture that doesn’t stick out as being out of place.
