The Mac Switch Continues

macbook blackI was waiting until MacWorld to make a purchasing decision on my next laptop. And while Macbook Air is really cool it isn’t powerful enough for what I need. So, I went ahead and got this bad boy. It’s not the most powerful Mac, but I got a great deal on it and it is a proven performer. Later tonight I’ll be boosting it a little more when I order a 4 gb upgrade to the RAM. (I remember having a 4 GB hard drive on my first laptop in 1999.)

So, in a few days the conversion to Mac will be underway. I am planning to run boot camp on this computer so that I can use some of the great toys we have at the office. The iMac did a good job of teaching me how to get things done in Leopard. Now it’s time to put that into production. It’s going to be an interesting ride.

I told you it was going to happen when you bought the iMac. 😉

Did you splurge for the $150 premium on the black body Macbook?

I did. I love the black one. I was hoping they were going to announce that they were doing colors so I could get a Product Red MacBook… but alas it wasn’t to be.

The black is nice, though I couldn’t get myself to spend that extra cash. When I bought my original MacBook in 2006 I asked what the difference in price was for and sales person was honest and just said, “The color.” Very quickly I said I’d take the white one. 🙂 Of course, I went back 4 months later and upgraded to a MacBook Pro and sold the MacBook to a friend.

They just within the past few months updated all their computer lines, so I wasn’t expecting any upgrades for MacWorld. I was really hoping for a 12″ MacBook Pro though. I really want one of those. My brother’s 12″ Powerbook from a few years ago was pretty much the best laptop I’ve ever used. Even after 14 months having it, it’s still super fast and runs beautifully. The battery even still lasts 1.5-2hrs, which is incredible after this much time. I’ve never had this much luck with the past 4 PC laptops I’ve owned. I don’t think I’ll have to upgrade this machine for awhile.

I’m looking forward to it showing up at my house any day now.

My existing Dell Inspiron has been a good lappy. But it has cycled out. It’s 2+ years old and I used the snot out of it. I think it’s getting retired to be a check in computer for the kids ministry.
