  • Artists care about hurting students

You know… sometimes mere mortal youth pastors like myself can’t express our desire to help the hurting. We truly do want to be there. These guys are just better at showing you how we feel.

That’s all I have to say. I’ll be reviewing it later tonight and my review will publish next Monday before the release.

I really did mean to do this on Saturday, but I forgot. So here goes… here are the next 10 tunes travelling down the narrow pipeline from my laptop into the void between my ears. No cheating, ratings include.

Seems either iTunes is going through a punky Green Day phase… it may be random but I’m calling for a conspiracy. If you haven’t check out Jake Smith yet, he’s worth a gander.

Saturday_tunes_2It’s kind of a slow Saturday. Hot and sticky in Romeo. The kind of weather that just makes you want to do nothing outside. So, without any further introduction here are the next 10 songs piping into my ears. No cheating, rating included.

    9. Our God Reigns, Tomlin/Crowder/Redman *****
    10. Wonderwall, Oasis *****

Um, I think I need to shake my iTunes or something. That’s quite a string of songs from Six Step Records.

  • Tell ‘Em God’s Gonna Cut You Down

This isn’t brand new, but it is powerful. I know from a musician standpoint the celebrities and musicians involved likely did this as a tribute video. But considering the words and the people involved…. it’s powerful. The music if obviously from the late Johnny Cash.

Who do you recognize? You may have to watch it twice to place all the faces.

Sitting here at a local coffee shop this morning, sipping a mocha and nibbling on a bagel. I need to get back into this routine sooner rather than later. Today is a good day. Bob’s surgery went well. I’ve got my favorite youth group trip of the year leaving tomorrow. I’m going to a very encouraging conference late next week. And one of my favorite people is moving back to Romeo later next week. All of that leaves me in quite a mood today.

Without further delay, here are the next 10 tunes piped into my cranium: (no cheating, ratings included)

    1. The Truth (Relient K) ***
    2. Omigod You Guys (Legally Blonde, the musical) *** Yeah… that’s embarrassing.
    3. Holy Heart (Charlie Hall) ****
    4. You’re Worthy of My Praise (Passion Band) *****
    5. Miss Sarajevo (U2) *****
    6. All the Earth (Passion Band) ****
    7. The Story (Brandi Carlile) *****
    8. Solto O Frango (Bonde do Role) ****
    9. Desire (U2) *****
    10. Possibilities (Santus Real) ****

    Two more thoughts…

    • Saturday shout-out to Dave. He’s having fun in Belfast and I wish I could be there.
    • I’m seriously thinking of adding a "Customer Service Report" column to my blog. This area is full of businesses that I frequent a lot. Some have great customer service and others… well, are like the place I went yesterday.

Saturday_tunes_2It’s a muggy day in Romeo and Kristen is off to gather some fruit and vegitables from a local roadside stand… which means only one thing: It’s July in Michigan. And it doesn’t get much better than July in Michigan. Dog days, Tigers games, people going up North, school still a mile away.

Here are the next 10 songs running between my ears as I eat my Lucky Charms this magnificent muggy morning midway through Summer. (No cheating, ratings included)

    1. Casting Off (This Beautiful Republic) *****
    2. Take a Little Time (Jeremy Camp) ****
    3. Angels in Tophats, Cups Full of Blood (House of Heroes) ****
    4. World (Five for Fighting) ****

    8. All Creatures of Our God and King (Bethany Dillon) ***
    9. Rock of Ages (DCB) ****
    10. Hit Me Up (Mia Ferrel, Happy Feet Soundtrack) ****

Actually, looks like the next hour or so will be kind of lame. Oh well!

  • Get up and dance!

Wherever you are when you see this, you must get up and dance. Living room, dorm, kitchen, coffee shop, office, whatever… do the funky chicken!

  • A New Rating System

A couple weeks back I reinstalled everything on my computer. This meant I installed a new operating system, new versions of tons of stuff… and it also meant I reorganized all my data.

In the course of this process, I had to move where my music folder was stored. Actually, I didn’t have to do that… but to clean things up I now have all of my music in a single folder. Long story short, when I reinstalled iTunes, I was basically starting over.

The hard part of this is that I had all 3000 songs rated. Now, I have to start over!

The fun part is that I’m rediscovering a lot of music. The bad part is, 3000 songs is a lot of stuff to rate. For now I am cheating and rating whole albums at a time. But over the next few weeks I’ll be rating everything 1-5 again individually. Stuff that is 4-5 stars automatically goes on the ipod, stuff that is below doesn’t.
