  • Crowder in St. Louis

Since I’m kind of on a video tear this morning anyway. Here’s what all the excitement is about leading up to the National Youth Workers Convention. Thousands of youth workers cutting loose and enjoying themselves. Yes, that’s a youth worker crowd surfing! No responsibilities, no counting students, no making sure they aren’t making out, just a really long weekend of fun like this. (Of course, there is content too… but you get the gist.)

Saturday_tunes_2It’s a quiet day here around the house. Kristen has the kids running around everywhere in town from activity to activity and I’m home working on stuff for YMX‘s debut at the National Youth Workers Convention in a couple of weeks.
With soccer over we got to sleep in a little, go to breakfast with our small group leaders from Light Force and pretty much play it by ear from there.

Without any further delay, here are the next 10 tunes streaming between my ears. As always, no cheating and ratings are included.

    1. Pure by Superchic(k) ****

Today is an unreal day in the McLane house. One of those days when we look at the schedule and go… oops. We have soccer this morning, corn maze this afternoon, a quick meeting after the corn maze at our house, then I have to drive Kristen down to Cobo to pick up her race pre-registration for her half-marathon Sunday morning. Than the rest of the day I’m solo dad as Kristen is staying the night with her folks. All that and I am working on 2.5 million things for YMX.

So, while all that is going on here are the next 10 tunes racing through our brains this morning with all we have going on. As always… next 10 tunes, no cheating, rating included.

    1. Bucket for Bullet Wounds by House of Heros ****

Saturday_tunes_2Saturday’s in the fall means a couple of things. College football, soccer with the kids, beginning the winterization process around the house, (tough to do when it’ll be 90 today) and otherwise enjoying hanging around the family. The packing has begun for our cruise… we leave for the Seattle area right after church tomorrow.

With all that stuff cooking, here are the next 10 tracks pounding their hellish lyrics into my frontal lobe this Saturday. As always, no cheating ratings included.

    9. Life is a Highway, Rascal Flatts ***** (this country is for you Dawn)
    10. Sleeper, Everyday Sunday ***** (a song based on my life verse, doesn’t get any better to me)

How about you? Who’s rockin’ your pod today?

  • Beautiful Disaster: Jon McLaughlin

JonmclaughlinI’m reviewing the new album by Jon McLaughlin for YMX. There are sometimes when a lyric is just so real that you can’t help but identify with them. Actually, I think in one way or another every Christian can identify with this song:

She’s giving boys what they want, tries to act so nonchalant,
Afraid they’ll see that she’s lost her direction.
She never stays the same for long,
Assuming that she’ll get it wrong.
    Perfect only in her imperfection.

    Chorus:
And she would change everything, everything just ask her.
Caught in the in between, a beautiful disaster,
And she just needs someone to take her home.

  • Review of Remedy by David Crowder Band

Remedy3This weekend I had a chance to finish my review of Remedy. Of course that’s a good thing since the CD comes out Tuesday and we really push to get reviews published before the CD actually comes out. About this review, I’ll just say that it wasn’t an easy one to be concise on. This is one of those projects that I think is a "game changer." I  think that you will see a lot of bands try to emulate Crowder because of their success and because of their innovative style.

Here’s my review, now live over at Youth Ministry Exchange.

    Remedy1
Dr. Pepper. Ted Nugent. Squirrels. Banjos. World change. What do these things have in common?
    Remedy
by David Crowder Band. For the band, this much anticipated release is
also the proclamation of a new challenge for the band. They challenge
audience members to infect positive change in their communities and
around the world in the name of Christ.
    Remedy confronts the
most common critique of Christian music–that it is too happy–with a
mission-driven body of work that is sure to set the Christian music
    world on fire.

  • Everything Glorious

With the Crowder CD, Remedy, about to come out… I’ve seen a huge upspike in the traffic to a video we posted on YouTube back in January. Church folks will remember that we used these as part of our
    Genesis series in January.

Just so we’re clear, the song we used to create this was from the Passion 06 CD… it was a live version. On Remedy, we hear a studio version of the same song. So while the song may seem "new’ it’s been out a little while.
