• Your Ministry Life, Unexpected

Last night things just kind of went sideways, for me. Kristen and Paul went to the Aztecs game– the reason being that I try not to miss Wednesday night high school small groups.

So the value I was trying to express is that I’m making Wednesday night with my guys a priority.

With Megan headed to her small group, that left us one adult short to watch Jackson, our toddler.

  • Should I be worried about Ask.fm?

    ASk.FM

Every once in a while a parent or youth worker will ask me about Ask.fm. I thought it’d be useful to share a little bit about this smallish social network and how to help your teenager use it in a way that won’t lead them to getting hurt.

    What is Ask.fm?

  • The End

I sat down in 8A matter-of-factly. The doors closed on Southwest flight 561. We reached 10,000 feet, I put my headphones on, read a book for a bit, drank a Coke, and avoided small talk with a chatty passenger excited for vacation.

70 minutes later it was over. My 6th Southwest flight of the week in the books.

  • Faithfully Playing Your Role in Chapter 3

Youth ministry has a painful double-edged sword.

    double-edge-sword

One the one hand, youth ministry plays a critical role in the faith development of teenagers. It’s incredible to be part of life transformation at such a defining point in their lives.

On the other hand you are only reading one chapter on a teenagers life.

You get– Chapter 3: The Teenage Years.

  • The Key to Doing is…

yc-all-black-200This week Marko and I are hosting The Summit for the 2nd time. It’s a TED-talk style event for youth workers, 18 presenters each delivering a 12-15 minute talk on a topic related to an overarching theme.

It’s a gathering of a few hundred people looking to have their imaginations sparked, new ideas ignited, and fellow sojourners more interested in helping youth ministry find new realities than hanging onto the past.

  • A Youth Worker’s Hierarchy of Needs

A Youth Worker's Hierarchy of Needs

If you aren’t familiar with Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, this post might not make much sense to you. (Or TV shows like Survivor!)

Question: Did I nail it? What’s missing? What’s wrong? Let me know in the comments.

  • 4 Strengths the Second Brings

We live in a society that worships personality. We worship, as heroes, the outgoing and exuberant head honcho. The #1.

  • College Football Thoughts – Week 10

    the-adam-report

November in college football. It’s a glorious thing. Teams are at their best, the air is cooler, and the games are all the more meaningful.

Yesterday only disappointed in that it didn’t provide that signature upset finish. Sure, there was Nebraska’s hail mary. But let’s be honest in acknowledging that outside of Omaha that game had little impact on the national landscape.

  • Road Sabbath

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve been to church.

And it’ll be about another month until I get to be home on a Friday night to go to church at Journey.

For someone who used to work in the local church that appears really odd. (It feels weird to write, somewhat confessional.) I even remember a time when we, as a staff,  pushed to define the amount of Sunday’s a leader had to be present in order to qualify to be a leader. I think we settled on 45 Sunday’s per year… I’d be disqualified by a country mile.

    the-adam-report

How did it get to be Wednesday? For the third Saturday in a row I was working all day and didn’t really get a chance to watch much football.
