  • Virginia Tech Discussion Guide

VatechcampusHere is the discussion we’re having in Light Force tonight.

    • Obviously we all know the facts of the shootings at Virginia Tech University this
           past Monday.

      • A
student used a legally purchased gun to kill 32 classmates and faculty
              members before killing himself.
      • A place of trust and tranquility was turned into a killing ground.
    • By all
accounts, the shooter is described as β€œa loner.”

      • Few if any friends
      • Never had a visitor
      • Apparently he struggled with speaking to people, so he became an English major.
      • He was β€œan average student.”
      • He attracted the attention of his classmates and professors with some
violent writing, but he never crossed a line into violence.

    Discuss:

What are your thoughts on the killings? How are you
    processing it?

What are some reasons people do stuff like this?

  • For the Hokies

VtribbonLike a lot of people, I sat in horror all day glued to the television. As the numbers went from 1 killed to "at least 20" to 32, I just felt this tremendous loss for the VaTech community.

It’s amazing to me how much my Christian tendencies want to "find the good’ of the events of yesterday. I think those silver linings may come as the days and weeks go by, but for now… I’m just in shock and horrified by the realities of it all.

Not much else I can say other than I hope folks are praying for the community, staff, employees, students, parents, and friends of Virginia Tech.

Here’s nice list of resources from Gospel Communications.

Gotta love the Apple Store. Yeah, get to blog and screw around with these silly macs. πŸ™‚

  • Sprinter is here!

SprinterSprinter is here. Both literally and figuratively.

Figuratively, it’s the time of year when you don’t know what to wear since it could be 70 today and it may snow. (Last night it did a little) What’s nice about this time of year is that you get tiny glimpses of spring hope in which to exorcise your spring fever. What’s annoying is knowing that it’s premature to celebrate and put away the shovel and salt.

Literally, Sprinter is an event we’re hosting at Light Force Friday night. I’m geeked about it and just hoping that it works as a foyer event. It’s Light Force’s first real "foyer" level event. Let’s pray that students are going to bring people. The group has been so small lately… we certainly need an influx of fresh faces.

  • Make it Happen!

Married_life_blue_welcomeTonight is our first MarriedLife at Romeo. ML is a quarterly "living room environment" for married folk at the church. It’s a night to come together and laugh, learn, and enjoy one another’s company. Going into it… my hope is that it’s something that stands out that we do really well. (Like MainStreet)

    Que?
Yeah, what does that mean for me? Leading up to this we’ve done some major tech upgrades. I haven’t been involved in a lot of the installation, but I’ll be in charge of using all the new equipment when it’s set up. We’ve added 2 banks of lights. (3 more banks to come as 2007 progresses, infrastructure in place) We’ve added 2 more monitor channels. (Doesn’t matter much for the audience, but to musicians this is huge) And we put in a new projector this week. (Everyone will notice how much brighter that is right away) Looking back, this was way more work than I thought it would be. But the payoff is going to be great. While on a typical Sunday these upgrades won’t be hugely noticeable, events like MarriedLife will really pop.

  • Feeling better

I woke up this morning feeling much better. Most of the sourness and spinning head-ness is now gone. Now I’m just back to my same old crazy. Not sick & crazy anymore! Reminds me of a song….

  • An honor

    Bloggers
I’m sitting in my bedroom feeling rather ill and otherwise having a pity party. That is, until I cam across fellow youth ministry blogger Gerrard Fess’s post called "Top 20 Youthworkers blogbers you need to know."
That’s a very nice compliment. Thank you.

I’d like to thank the Academy. My mother. My high school English teacher. All of my friends at YMX. And Typepad, who took my blogging to the extreme I rock the microphone.

OK, that was the illness speaking. Seriously, thank you.

  • What are you doing?

    Dave_collins
I feel that way sometimes too. Someone will pop into my office and see something that’s on my PC desktop and say, "So this is what you do all day?" That always makes me laugh.

This is part of a project we’re working on for this Sunday. Just a preview… there are a lot more of these where this one came from.
