Ah, Memorial Day. It’s hard to have an “unofficial start to summer” when your kids have 6 weeks left in school and the temperature pretty much hovers around the same 20 degree variable 10 months a year. Alas, it’s summer and I’m excited about that. We’ve had a hectic for a kick-off to a 3 day weekend. Last night we decided to take the trolley down to the Gasplamp district of San Diego to enjoy our family date night. While we got settled onto the trolley I got a text that my long-awaited iPhone app had finally released. (You get to submit and wait for Apple, no choice on a release date.) Tucking that distraction into the back of my mind we had a good evening of walking around downtown and eating at the Old Spaghetti Factory. [Just OK food, but the kids liked it.]
This morning I woke up and did a bit of PR to get things moving with the app. Then I dashed of to Del Mar to film a podcast segment with a comedian… who was funny despite it being 10 in the morning. From here we actually don’t know what we’re doing until Tuesday morning. I’m sure we’ll figure it out.
For now, I’m just chilling and listening to some music.
Here are the next 10 tunes flowing to my cranium. As always… completely random with my ratings included:

Fully in life’s rhythms now. I can’t think of another period of my adult life where I’ve been in such a looonnngggg stand of just doing normal things. Going to the office and coming home at the same times. I have a morning routine, an evening routine, and a firmly established weekend routine. It won’t last much longer… so I’m soaking up the final few weeks. (The travel part of my year kicks back in soon.)
Today, we’re going to take Stoney to the beach so he can run, play, and swim. Low tide is in a couple of hours and we totally look forward to playing with him the tide pools. Each time the kids claim they don’t want to go and they won’t have fun… then we have to drag them home. After that we’re meeting my mom at the nut farm. No really, we’re meeting her at Bates Nut Farm near Escondido. Let the nut jokes and innuendo begin. When we told Paul (5) where we were going he whispered to Megan (8), “When we get there I can say, ‘Oh my nuts.”Later tonight, we may be getting a houseguest for one night. More on that later.
Right now, I am just chilling out and listening to music. Here are the next 10 tunes streaming from my iPod to my brain. I’m sharing them with you since we’re such great web-friends. As always, these are completely random and my ratings are included.

It’s been a good week. OK, better than average. It’s been a really nice week. A friend was nice enough to watch our kids on Monday and Wednesday. (Last week of their 3 week Spring Break) She took them to the pool, had some wicked great activities, and on Wednesday they went to see Disney’s Earth movie. Tuesday, Kristen stayed home with them and took them to the Kroc Center pool. Thursday was my day, I took the kids to Sea World… fulfilling one of my lifelong desires to see Shamu. I suppose the kids had a good time too. Yesterday, the kids tagged along with me in the office for a few hours and then we drove up to Oceanside to hang with dear friends from Romeo, Fran and Andrea. On top of that, we got our State and Federal tax returns. That was a major fast-forward towards our financial goals for 2009.
Now its the weekend. Kristen is already off to her weekly romp up Cowles Mountain. Later this morning I’ll take the dog to the beach so he can play in the water. In the meantime, I’m chilling and listening to some music. Here are the next 10 songs on my playlist. As always, selected at random and my ratings included.

Since Spring has finally arrived in most of the country, I don’t mind bragging a little. We’re going to have a fantastic weekend! With tempuraturs in the mid to upper 70s, our family is drawn to the beach like a mosquito to a bug zapper. Right now, Kristen is meeting some of my co-workers for a hike up Cowles Mountain. Later this morning we’ll all take Stoney to the beach for his weekly ocean therepy. Tommorow we’re headed to the beach after church to resume our Sunday beach tradition after a long break for Winter. Then on Monday night our community group has decided to meet down in Ocean Beach for a bonfire on the beach. In the meantime, the kids are watching cartoons. Water is boiling for coffee and I am settling in to relax a bit. Here are the next 10 tunes I’m listening to. As always, no cheating and my ratings are included.

Easter weekend 2009. As Kristen said on her blog, Easter is a completely different experience for us. For the first time in our kids lives we aren’t attached running around the church. The highlight of our Easter celebration, so far, was Thursday night’s Messianic Seder. If ever there was a kinesthetic learning time for a community group, this was it.Yesterday I had the day off. Another first in my adult life! Kristen went to work in the morning and in the afternoon I drove up to LA to pick up Cathie, Patti‘s daughter. She is here this week thawing out from a long winter and helping us watch the kids on their Spring Break. A win-win! We got back about 8:30 and I think everyone had crashed out by 10:00. This morning, everyone… less Cathie… has crawled out of bed and is quietly going about their business. When Kristen gets back from her hike up Cowles Mountain I’ll be taking Stoney to dog beach for his weekly therepy of ocean and butt sniffing. I’m already looking forward to a great Easter service, a picnic with our refugee friends, and a great week next week.
So that’s my corner of the world this Saturday morning. Here are my next 10 tunes. As always, completely random… ratings included.

It was a loco week. Not in a bad way, either. My head is spinning this weekend with all the fun stuff that happened in the previous 7 days. But today is Saturday and I am trying hard to put all of that aside so I can recoup for the week to come. This morning I am off to dog beach to let Stoney run. It’s going to be a fantastic weekend weather-wise, so I am guessing this won’t be our only trip to the beach. (Actually, Kristen and I snuck in an afternoon date yesterday where we went to the beach and walked along the surf.)Here are the next 10 tunes I’m jamming to right now. Saturday Tunes
Another weekend, already? If it has to be Saturday I will take it. Yet, it hardly seems like a week since my last installment.Last night we had some friends over for dinner. Chris and Anastasia are very cool and I’m thankful to have them on staff at Harbor dreaming of ways to reach people and bring justice to City Heights. Kristen absolutely went off and delivered one of the most incredible collections of food ever. With a mediteranian theme she made everything from scratch. Homus, pita bread, chicken skewers, salad, and even frozen yogurt. Give that woman a kitchen and some ingredients and she comes to life. All of those years of girl porn have really paid off.
Today we are taking the kids to the zoo for a while. I’ve never been and they have each been a few times. So that will be fun. Have we gotten used to Southern California to the point where we are laid back about going to the San Diego Zoo? I mean, that place is a wonderland of zoology. I’m sure it’ll be fun.
As usual, Saturday kicks off with some quiet time. Everyone is sleeping in and I am quietly listening to some tunes. Here are the next 10 tunes randomly selected on my iPod… er, I mean iPhone.
