Responding the Haiti Crisis from Adventures In Missions on Vimeo.
Meet Clint, a member of YMATH. I think this video gives a flavor for the heart of the Adventures in Missions staff I’ve met over the past 3 weeks. They are practical, passionate, and matter-of-fact. I can’t wait to watch these folks do their thing.
It amazes me to see the fragmented Kingdom of God come together to address the crisis in Haiti.

My Social Media Event Toolbox
Tonight I am packing for NYWC and I thought it’d be cool to capture a gear list. People see me running around and doing a lot of stuff, here is the equipment that makes it all happen.
– Panasonic HD video camera (podcast footage)
– Panasonic hand held camcorder (I take 2 of these, use them for daily recap videos)
– Flip camera (for quick stuff I take from Big Room to Facebook, love it)
– iPhone (all around communication device. Digital camera, calendar, Twitter machine, Facebook status updates, Mobile Flickr posts)
– Nikon D60 (only one is pictured but I take two, plus about five 4 gig SD cards. Light and reliable, these are workhorse cameras for me)
– Lenses (Standard lens, 300 for close-ups and Big Room stuff, wide angle to capture the bigness of some stuff)
– Camera bag (You won’t see me without this at NYWC. It carries a lot of gear and lenses)
– Wireless mics (for big video camera)
– Mixer (for postgame show)
– Portable hard drive (Hey, I capture a lot of media!)
– Macbook Pro (Onsite I use web apps mostly, but I also use CS4, Final Cut, iMovie, iPhoto)
– iPod headphones (Carry 2 sets, they are cheap so if I lose them its no big deal)
– Media card reader (Carry 2 of these, you never know when someone will hand you a weird media card)
– Mac display adapters (Got one of each variety– I’m handy like that for my friends)
– Power cables galore (Convention handbook says you will always find me near an electrical outlet, it’s true! While I pictured one of everything I actually bring one for my bag and one for my room of almost every cable I use)
– USB, Firewire, RCA, Minijack cables (I bring about 10 varieties, cheaper to carry them than buy them)
– Business cards (Shoot video/pictures with someone, hand ’em a card)
– Batteries (Mostly 9v and AA, this picture reminds me I need to stock up on AA)
– Extra battery packs (I have a spare battery for everything, except my Macbook which lasts exceptionally long)
There’s actually a lot not pictured here that I use a lot, as well. But this is the stuff I carry with me almost all the time. In addition to this I have lighting, tripods, more electrical stuff… and three full time volunteers!
Seem excessive? 4 video cameras, 3 digital cameras, enough microphones to hold a press conference… Spend a couple hours with me and you’ll see that I use it all. I work my gear like my golf bag. I play ’em all.

Notre Dame Recap
Heading into the big game at the Big House (the only week I cheer against Michigan football) the Fighting Irish looked pretty solid. Lots of offense, lots of defense, and an entire 4th quarter played by 2nd and 3rd stringers.

Episode 023 Backstory
I have to tell you, I’m especially excited about this week’s podcast. Every episode is fun to work on… but this one uses two segment that were especially meaningful to me. The tip is from Kerry Loescher. She’s not someone I had ever met before and since she isn’t a published author… I hadn’t heard of her. She is a youth ministry prof at Oral Roberts University in Oklahoma. Before the shoot she had a great chat. Even after the shoot, the chatting continued and I was really happy to see her around the convention center the rest of the weekend. I love how she leads you into this simple tip with a compelling story. Great communication! A few weeks later I shot this piece with Danielle Strickland. (She’s the social justice director for Salvation Army Australia) I had heard some really cool stuff about her so I had a feeling the piece would turn out good. What I wasn’t prepared for was how easy she was to talk to. In her eyes I wasn’t just some dude with a camera to bother her on a very busy day. (This was about 2 hours before her general session talk) She had carefully arranged the meet-up time, then apologized for being ready early, (which NEVER happens) and was extraordinarily kind through the whole thing. Then, when she started to teach I found myself captivated. By this time, I had shot dozens of these segments at the conventions. But for whatever reason I was really into it. And she really challenged my heart with this devo. When the shoot was done I felt a little awkward… like stunned to silence as contemplated it and let it soak in. I looked over at Cathy (my co-worker who was with me) and she had the same look I did. It was quite a moment when I realized that I wasn’t just shooting a devo for a podcast. My heart had been ministered to as well.
The only other side note on this episode worth sharing has to do with the timing of my segments. In order to get the show to appear on YouTube, we need to get it as close to 10 minutes as possible. We knew Danielle’s segment was longish for what we normally do… which was fine because Kerry’s was shortish. All that to say… Ian and I were rushing to fit my intro, segway, and outro in as fast as possible. Never fear, we have something fun planned for next week’s show!
